iDealwine®: migration of an e-commerce website to a composable architecture

14 months to modularize the site and migrate 20 years of history.

Context

Idealwine, a French company founded in 2000, specializes in the sale of fine wines with a unique business model combining public auctions and e-commerce. Auctions represent 70% of sales, making it the world leader. The offer presented by iDealwine® includes a wide selection of wines, purchased directly from winemakers with more than 1000 partner wineries or private collections. The iDealwine® rating is used as a reference for evaluating the value of wines on the secondary market. In addition, the company is present internationally and exports to 60 countries.

However, their e-commerce solution was aging and presented 3 major problems

  • Difficulty to make the site evolve with a monolithic solution
  • Loss of control over technology
  • Vulnerability, security breaches

Challenges

The aim was to complete the migration with a fixed schedule and budget. We therefore started with a framework of 2 months and then implemented a design-to-cost approach to prioritize, arbitrate and propose ingenious approaches to carry out the project in 14 months.

Our approach

Theodo experts (Lead PM, Product Owner, Product Owner, Software Engineers, Software Engineers, Architect and Engineering Manager) supported the iDealwine® teams.

What made the difference:
